Everyday I see pictures of celebrities with different cell phones, MP3 players and trendy gadgets on PopSugar and wonder, how do they pick which phone to be photographed 10,000 times with and more importantly, are they getting paid to flash a little RAZR or BlackBerry love? My favorite Techie Diva Gina Hughes recently informed me of a new study that shows cell phones do say a lot about our personality. "Phones are an extension of our personality and the reason we pay a lot of moolah to have them covered in Swarovski crystals," says Hughes. "That's not to say we solely judge a phone by its cover. This generation of tech-savvy consumers has all the shopping comparison tools they need to make an informed decision."
I agree with her wholeheartedly, particularly her point that mobile phone companies "will do anything to get their phones into celebrity hands as a tactic to make them more desirable."
So how can you tell if a celebrity really loves their shiny gadgets and when it's just product placement? It's sometimes hard to say unless it's an official campaign. What we do know is, we've seen Courteney Cox, Paris Hilton, Jamie Foxx, Lauren Conrad and Jennifer Aniston exposing their BlackBerries amid armfuls of other gadgets. This past weekend, PopSugar spotted Pirates of the Caribbean star Keira Knightley waiting for an important call on her BlackBerry, while Madonna seems to always carry hers between Pilates classes. I guess we'll never know...
