Celebrity: Joshua Jackson

Product: Samsung BlackJack II

An agreement with the Fox show Fringe got AT&T's Samsung BlackJack II into the hands of actor Joshua Jackson this February. Jackson plays a researcher of "fringe science" in the new science fiction series. In one scene, he uses the phone and AT&T's "Video Share" service to stream video from the scene of a crime to his partner.

Celebrity: Lauren Conrad

Product: Samsung Eternity

The Hills is a series about young people in Los Angeles, but it often feels like a show about cellphone culture. AT&T recently capitalized on the show's passion for cellphones by providing phones at The Hills' premiere and finale parties. Footage of the parties was also shown on air.

Celebrity: Kiefer Sutherland

Product: Sprint Instinct

Ever notice that 24's Jack Bauer always seems to be using a Sprint cellphone? The deal generates plenty of exposure for Sprint, but occasionally strains the series' sense of reality. In an episode late last year, Bauer used a Sprint phone while in Africa. Later, some viewers noted that Sprint's cellular technology, known as CDMA, won't work in Africa.

Celebrity: Leighton Meester

Product: BlackBerry Storm

You will probably never see an iPhone featured on Gossip Girl. The reason: Verizon Wireless has had an "integration deal" with the series since 2007. That means lots of Verizon handsets like the BlackBerry Storm and no AT&T-exclusive devices like the iPhone.

Celebrity: Shia LaBeouf

Product: Special Edition LG Versa

LG phones will make some type of appearance in the new Transformers movie, Revenge of the Fallen, which opens June 24. The company is keeping quiet about details but did strike a marketing deal with producer Paramount Pictures and designed a special edition of its Versa handset to promote the film.

Celebrity: Daniel Craig

Product: Sony Ericsson Cyber-shot C902

Sony Ericsson outfitted actor Daniel Craig with a special "titanium silver" edition of its Cyber-shot C902 phone for Quantum of Solace. Sony Ericsson's parent company, Sony, has a keen interest in James Bond movies. The previous Bond film, 2006's Casino Royale, featured so many Sony products that some viewers likened it to a commercial.

Celebrity: Jim Carrey

Product: Nokia 6300

Yes Man opens with Jim Carrey talking on his cellphone in a video rental store. Yes, it's a Nokia handset, this time the 6300. As Carrey's character grows more social--part of his character's vow to say "yes" to everything--he makes more calls, yielding more screen time for the phone.

Celebrity: Katy Perry

Product: Nokia N96

Another Nokia phone pops up in Katy Perry's "Hot N Cold" video, in which Perry plays a jilted bride. As she--and a crew of female friends--prepares to attack her would-be groom, he pulls out a Nokia N96 phone, only to find Perry singing at him from the handset's screen.

Celebrity: Christina Aguilera

Product: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

The Nokia 5800 has a smaller cameo in Christina Aguilera's "Keeps Gettin' Better" video. The shot is brief: Aguilera sitting in a recording studio, pressing icons on the handset's touch-screen.

Celebrity: Britney Spears

Product: Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Britney Spears normally limits endorsements to products that bear her own name or likeness. But she incorporated Nokia's 5800 XpressMusic phone into her "Womanizer" video as part of a product placement deal. In the video, her love interest is the one who actually uses the phone, first to check his calendar and, later, to film her dancing.

Jennifer Aniston Is A Blackberry Woman

Jennifer Aniston may have lost Brad and Vince Vaughn, but at least she hung on to her Blackberry! This week's Life and Style Magazine is featuring a picture of Jen to showcase her $2,400 Jennifer Meyer 18-karat yellow gold leaf necklace. We of course, love the photo for showing off the beautiful Blackberry.

Though not as slender and chic as the Blackberry Pearl model, Jen's phone, the Blackberry 8700, offers mail, phone, browser, instant messaging and organizer into one compact, integrated device. Wise choice Jen, very wise.

Kiera - Blackberry

Everyday I see pictures of celebrities with different cell phones, MP3 players and trendy gadgets on PopSugar and wonder, how do they pick which phone to be photographed 10,000 times with and more importantly, are they getting paid to flash a little RAZR or BlackBerry love? My favorite Techie Diva Gina Hughes recently informed me of a new study that shows cell phones do say a lot about our personality. "Phones are an extension of our personality and the reason we pay a lot of moolah to have them covered in Swarovski crystals," says Hughes. "That's not to say we solely judge a phone by its cover. This generation of tech-savvy consumers has all the shopping comparison tools they need to make an informed decision."
I agree with her wholeheartedly, particularly her point that mobile phone companies "will do anything to get their phones into celebrity hands as a tactic to make them more desirable."
So how can you tell if a celebrity really loves their shiny gadgets and when it's just product placement? It's sometimes hard to say unless it's an official campaign. What we do know is, we've seen Courteney Cox, Paris Hilton, Jamie Foxx, Lauren Conrad and Jennifer Aniston exposing their BlackBerries amid armfuls of other gadgets. This past weekend, PopSugar spotted Pirates of the Caribbean star Keira Knightley waiting for an important call on her BlackBerry, while Madonna seems to always carry hers between Pilates classes. I guess we'll never know...

LG Mobile TV Party

LG held a special "Mobile TV Party" at Paramount Studios this week to celebrate the launch of the LG VX9400. If the celebrity status of the people that show up for such events is any indicator, this device looks to be a little less alluring and youthful than the Sidekick iD. Not that I don't have a soft spot in my heart for Brenda Walsh or Lauren Conrad, but you gotta admit the crowd was less, how shall I say this, "hip" than some launch parties. Why were people like Scott Baio, Christopher Knight, Gary Coleman, Shannen Doherty and Alan Thicke in attendance? The LG VX9400 is one of the first handsets to support Mobile TV, which delivers programs from some of the biggest television networks to your cell. LG themed out the entire party recreating what they called three of television's most memorable shows "Brady Bunch, Star Trek and Happy Days." The VX9400 phone allows you to make calls, answer messages, and when finished, go right back to enjoying TV programs.

Michele Trachtenberg

Obviously, Michelle Trachtenberg didn't get the memo about how I'd wire Georgina Sparks for her upcoming stint in college, otherwise she'd toss that RAZR2 V9x and BlackBerry Curve and replace it with an iPhone 3GS! Although I am digging her color choice for the outfitted BlackBerry (which is the phone of choice on another show I'm quickly becoming addicted to), I'm just left wondering who carries a RAZR anymore when you're as busy as Michelle!? At least the iPhone would make it easy to check calendar appointments, make calls, and check emails, plus with endless apps, she can keep her professional (and personal) life chugging along without needing to carry a duo of phones.
